In our first Open House, presented by CR/Bard, we offered a "crash course" of the design programs that we use during this time of the project, among which are SAP2000, AutoCAD and Solidworks. In other words, the people who went to this activity could design their own bridge. This event was a total success according to the ones present, and so we think that too!

Every Saturday of through the month of August we were part of the exhibition that the Science Museum of Puerto Rico and the meteorologist Ada Monzón carried out, the Eco-exploratory. We presented educational talks and documentaries about it.
During these days we went to the towns of Mayagüez, Guayama, Ponce and Aguadilla, presenting ourselves as a team and what we have achieved in the competitions. We also teach children the basic concepts of structural engineering. We are grateful to be able to promote education in what will be the future of our island and we thank the staff of the Science Museum of Puerto Rico and the meteorologist Ada Monzón for allowing us to be in their space. |
We are beyond excited to finally start the project with the rules presented by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC). Those will be used for the competition this year.
Also, in case you didn’t know, there was a change in the directive of those who manage the competition of the steel bridge. Originally the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) was linked to this competition. However, they will no longer be, as indicated by a statement presented in the link presented in this publication. This, however, does not hinder our representation in competitions, so we are going strong to continue representing “El Colegio”. ¡Vamos pa’ lante! Our time to put “El Colegio” and Puerto Rico in the highest place starts now! |
It is with great honor that we show to you our 8th place "Overall" in the 2018 ASCE Student Steel Bridge Competition (SSBC) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
The contest, which was held from May 25 to May 26, was against 251 universities from the United States, Canada, China and Mexico. In addition to that, we won our first award on these competitions: the "Robert E. Shaw - Spirit of Competition" award. This was given to us due to our courage and spirit of wanting to demonstrate what we can do as Civil Engineers even though we have disastrous events that were Hurricanes Irma and María. However, we'll not stop here. We'll continue to pursuing higher rankings to put our University, "El Colegio", and Puerto Rico up high. We appreciate the help of all of our sponsors because without them we wouldn't got and participated there. We are eternally grateful! |
We are proud to inform you that we have won 1st place in the 2018 Regional Steel Bridge Competition at the University of Florida. We competed against more than 25 universities from the southeastern region of the United States.
Of the 6 categories in which we were evaluated, we placed "Top 3" in 4 of them, which resulted in the highest overall score. We achieved 1st place in stiffness, 2nd in structural efficiency, 2nd in construction economy and 3rd in construction speed. Our next goal is to achieve "top 5" in the National Competitions of the American Institute of Steel Construction 2018 to be held from May 25 to May 26, 2018 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. |
